Remploy – Supporting your employees at work

In this edition, we celebrate World Mental Health Day, to promote and raise awareness of the importance of good mental health for all. We’re sharing helpful resources and advice to help you create a healthy and productive workforce.

The Access to Work Mental Health Support Service supports employees with mental health issues affecting their work; and we have supported thousands of people to retain their employment across England, Scotland and Wales. It is open to people who are working, redeployed, furloughed, self-employed, currently working from home or on sick leave.

Our service continues to be fully remote, operating through phone, video conferencing and email; working with our customers supporting them with the impact the pandemic has had on their lives, in addition to the concerns that caused the initial referral.

We’re here to help you support the mental wellbeing of your employees.

The Access to Work Mental Health Support Service team assists hundreds of employers, across all sectors, to support their employees with their mental health.

With many people just returning to work, some will be anxious or concerned, whilst others may require support to get through each working day.

Now, more than ever, it’s important that your employees and apprentices feel supported and here at Remploy we can help.

Whilst we are unable to provide onsite support just yet, we can offer employers virtual mental health support sessions, at no cost, to you.

The one hour, confidential appointments are the first step in providing your employees with workplace and condition coping strategies to be comfortable at work, over a period of nine months.

Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant, Leigh Payne, shares how she became part of the Access to Work Mental Health Support Service team.

Although some of us found homeworking suited us, even helping to lower anxiety levels, there are others who have found the isolation difficult to cope with.

With lockdown measures beginning to ease, many businesses are re-opening sites and looking to return to a ‘new normal’. However, where homeworking caused feelings of isolation, returning to the workplace is leaving some to feel anxious or concerned.

It’s not unusual to see changes in our anxiety levels and we all go through tough times. Sometimes we need others to help through them, including in the workplace, and by following a few simple strategies, you can start to manage the impact on your overall mental and physical health.

• Sleep: If we don’t get enough sleep, we can start to feel anxious or depressed. etting enough sleep helps balance the chemicals that manage our mood and emotions.
• Diet: Eating well and having a balanced diet is important, as some deficiencies can cause low mood.
• Exercise: Being active will boost chemicals in your brain that can help eliminate anxiety, stress, low mood and feeling tired.
• Connect with others: Talking to others will help improve your anxiety and memory.

Who is responsible for mental wellbeing in your workplace?

Not everyone will know the answer to this question. In fact, everyone in the workforce shares a responsibility for mental wellbeing.

This confidential service delivered by Remploy and funded by the Department for Work and Pensions is available at no charge to any employees with depression, anxiety, stress or other mental health issues affecting them.
